Client Marketing 101

Written on February 9th, 2010 by Helen Burton

Have you ever found yourself sitting in front of a potential client, trying to keep the person engaged about what you do and how coaching can assist them?

And before you know it, you throw the ‘the-coach-who-listens’ out the window, and proceed to talk non-stop, for the next 20 minutes. Ugh!!

We have all been there!

So how do you overcome your infatuation with coaching and still effectively sell to a prospective client?

Here are a few steps that work successfully for me:

  1. Prepare an agenda before your meeting.
  2. Listen, listen, listen and let the person know you are truly interested in what they have to say.
  3. Answer any questions sticking to the point and keep it short.
  4. Invite them to be a client when the ‘aha moment’ happens.
  5. Keep the meeting short.
  6. Remember your prospective client, cares more about themselves than your passion for coaching.
